ANNE KERUBO

Project Coordinator - Community Outreach

“My most unique attribute is passion. I believe without passion for what I am doing it is not possible to perform my job. I am a passionate caregiver and I like to help people out when they need me.”

Anne brings dedication and heart to every project she leads at KIKOP. Her most defining quality is passion—she firmly believes that without genuine enthusiasm for the work, excellence is impossible. With a strong background in social work, Anne has a natural ability to support, organize, and uplift those around her. She thrives on helping people and ensuring that projects run smoothly, efficiently, and with a personal touch that reflects her commitment to make a difference in the community.

ROBINSON ARASA

Nurse at Nyagoto Dispensary

KAREN KWAMBOKA NYAMWEMBE

Nurse at Matongo Health Center

"Thanks to KIKOP, night duty and safe deliveries at Matongo are now possible, greatly reducing risks associated with home deliveries, ensuring mothers receive the prenatal care they need."

Robinson is one of KIKOP’s nurses at Nyagoto Dispensary. He attended primary school at Riverbank Academy and received his secondary education at Senior Chief Kegati to become a Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse. He was volunteering at KIKOP’s Nyagoto Dispensary when a nightshift opportunity to work for KIKOP became available. Since starting work a year ago, he has noticed an increase in the number of women coming in for delivery services which demonstrates KIKOP’s effective work and mission to provide increased access to care. He describes himself as a kind, hardworking nurse dedicated to saving mothers lives. Robinson’s career goals include continuing to assist mothers during maternity by offering medical services, home based care, and education for mothers and their young children.

Karen is a dedicated Nursing Officer stationed at Matongo Health Center. She has extensive experience working night shifts and received her nursing training from Kenya Medical Training College. Her commitment to nursing is driven by her desire to serve humanity and improve healthcare outcomes for vulnerable populations. Karen is passionate about maternal health and collaborates with CHVs to provide continuous support and care to mothers and infants, ensuring essential care under challenging conditions by monitoring labor, conducting deliveries, and providing postnatal care. Karen joined KIKOP to expand her impact and work within a community-focused organization. Through her work with KIKOP, she hopes to enhance community health and well-being, particularly in remote areas. She looks forward to future collaborations that will further KIKOP's mission of health advocacy and education, believing that prevention and continuous care are key to a healthier future.

SARAH NYANCHAMA

Nurse at Nyagoto Dispensary

"I urge for the continuation of our programs to help more people […] ensuring they receive essential services. Continued support and additional resources will enhance our work."

Sarah is a dedicated Nursing Officer at Nyagoto Dispensary with a nursing degree from St. Clair's Kaplong School of Nursing in Bomet County. She works night shifts, conducting deliveries, offering health talks to pregnant women, and caring for newborns. Passionate about nursing, her goal is to assist pregnant women with limited healthcare access and improve maternal health in underserved communities. Sarah joined KIKOP to expand her impact through international collaborations and work within a community-focused organization. Through her work with KIKOP, Sarah looks forward to serving her community in Nyagoto, especially pregnant women, to decrease maternal mortality rates.

COLETTE GERUBO

HIV HTS Provider

“Let's support each other and every individual. There is no stigma or discrimination in this; we should be inclusive and supportive.”

Colette is an HIV HTS Provider at KIKOP's Oresi Health Centre. With a professional background as a social worker and specialized training in HIV testing, she joined KIKOP to contribute her experience and positively impact her community. Having volunteered at KIKOP for over two months, she is dedicated to mobilizing and educating adolescents and young people about HIV prevention and support. Through her work, Colette encourages young people to participate fully and know their HIV status. She looks forward to KIKOP continuing to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for young people, as she believes that eliminating stigma and discrimination is key to a healthier future for all.

SIOCHA JUDITH NYANGIA

HIV HTS Provider

“KIKOP is a good project because, through these services, young mothers are able to learn more. And I think we should always be ready to work for society.”

Siocha works as an HIV HTS Provider at KIKOP, stationed at Mosocho Market Dispensary. She brings a wealth of expertise to her role, having studied psychology, sociology, and gender and development studies in her undergraduate program and completed training in HIV testing and gender-based violence counseling. Her journey with KIKOP began after volunteering at the Mosocho Market Dispensary, which led her to join the initiative. At KIKOP, Siocha assesses the clients' eligibility for testing, conducts HIV testing, and provides counseling and referrals to patient support centers for those who test positive. She is passionate about counseling and supporting those affected by HIV and is dedicated to educating young people about HIV prevention and support. She continuously seeks to enhance her skills and contribute to community development. Siocha expresses her gratitude for the opportunity to work with KIKOP, which allowed her to grow and make a positive difference. She believes that facing challenges with a positive attitude is crucial to creating a lasting impact.

WYCLIFFE MOTHAROKI UTENI

Field Officer at KIKOP

“KIKOP is an organization that has significantly improved community facilities and provided essential health education to mothers and community health promoters.”

Wycliffe is a dedicated Field Officer at the Kisii Konya Oroibo Project (KIKOP). With a background in social work and hands-on experience in various children's homes, Wycliffe is deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of the communities he serves. His role involves conducting routine home visits with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), collecting and reviewing data, and holding meetings to assess the progress of various projects. He has been a part of KIKOP for one and a half years and finds immense satisfaction in his work. Wycliffe is particularly enthusiastic about the project's contributions to community health education and the positive impact it has on mothers and children. He believes that the key to success in his role is a combination of skills, experience, and a genuine passion for community service. Looking forward, Wycliffe hopes that KIKOP will continue its vital work, further enhancing the health and well-being of the community. 

MEET THE BOARD

​SARAH GLADYS KWAMBOKA ANGIMA OMACHE 

Board Chair

Sarah Gladys Kwamboka Angima Omache, HSC, is a distinguished leader with a rich background in education, healthcare, and community development. She holds an M.A. in Education from Walla Walla University and a B.A. in Religion with a minor in Home Economics. Her academic journey includes training at prestigious institutions such as Middle East College and the University of London.

 

Sarah began her career as a high school teacher, where she made a significant impact as a counselor and educator at Gendia Boys High School and Nyanchwa Mixed High School. She later trained future high school teachers at Kisii Teachers Training College. Driven by a vision for quality education, Sarah founded Pace Primary Day/Boarding School and Pace Academy, renowned for their holistic approach to child development. Her involvement in the Kenya Private Schools Association underscores her commitment to improving education standards in Kenya.

 

In healthcare, Sarah co-founded Bosongo Medical Centre with her husband, transforming it into one of the best private medical facilities in the country. As the County Executive Committee Member for Health Services in Kisii County, she oversaw the transformation of Kisii Level 5 Hospital into a modern Teaching and Referral Hospital and implemented various public health programs, including Universal Health Coverage and the Linda Mama initiative.

 

Sarah's contributions have led to significant infrastructural improvements, including a Cancer Treatment and Rehabilitative Center. She has received several awards, including the Head of State Commendation (HSC) and accolades from Lions Club International. Her leadership roles in organizations like the Lake Region Economic Bloc Health Pillar highlight her dedication to community service.

MARIAMU MASESE-AMADI, MPH

Board Secretary

Mariamu is a seasoned global health and development professional with over 14 years of progressive and diverse experience in design, implementation, management, and evaluation of public health programs with expertise in Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health. A strong advocate of integrated community-led programming, she has managed and supported multi-million, multi-country, and multi-partner projects in various countries in Africa where she has successfully promoted meaningful civil society and community engagement.

 

Mariamu’s roles have focused on applying Human-Centered Design and Social Behavior Change principles, and participatory research, monitoring and evaluation methods to achieve program outcomes. She’s passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive environment for the delivery of high quality and effective projects and has led initiatives focused on disability inclusion and community-based Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS). Her expertise includes developing program training material and curriculum, as well as providing technical training in cross-cultural settings.

 

Mariamu holds a Master of Public Health in Maternal and Child Health and a certification in Global Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She enjoys cooking, travelling, dancing, spending time with family and friends. She’s fluent in English, Swahili and Kisii, and can speak basic French

DR. STELLA OMARI

Board Treasurer

Dr. Stella Omari is a passionate and ethical Lecturer at Kisii University, with extensive expertise in Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Organizational Studies, and Corporate Governance. She is highly skilled in research analysis, administration, and policy development, and is widely recognized for her excellence in strategic planning, training, and public speaking.

 

Articulate, persuasive, and innovative, Dr. Omari excels at working within institutional systems while addressing complex challenges with thoughtful solutions. She brings strong advisory, mobilization, and leadership skills, consistently meeting deadlines and exceeding expectations even under pressure.

 

Beyond academia, Dr. Omari is deeply committed to community service. She serves as a Board Member at Kikop Community-Based Organization, where she actively supports initiatives in maternal and child health, reflecting her dedication to meaningful, grassroots impact and sustainable development.

LILIAN ONGWENY

Board Member 

Lillian is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with over 25 years Post admission experience. Over the years Lillian has with success in private practice engaged in Commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, civil litigation and tax cases, Conveyance, registration of trademarks, patents and copyrights.  Lillian has also forged a path in Health Law research and Technology and is involved in a number of on going research projects.

 

She is a hardworking, honest, focused, dedicated and self-motivated person, with a passion for success and work diligence. 

Lillian holds a post graduate Diploma in Law(KSL) a Bachelors of Law(LLB) and a Bachelors in Social Legal sciences(BSL)  from the University of Pune.

DR. ISMAEL JOSEPH

Board Member

Dr. Ismael Joseph is a committed Educational Counselling Psychologist and Lecturer at Kisii University, with a strong passion for promoting mental health and student well-being. With years of experience in academic mentorship, psychological support, and community engagement, Dr. Joseph continues to shape lives both inside and outside the classroom.

 

He serves as a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) with St. John Ambulance, a Deputy County Commissioner, and a National Examiner, roles that have deepened his connection with vulnerable communities and sharpened his skills in offering timely, compassionate support. His career goal is to advance in the field of mental health counseling, using his expertise to serve those most in need—particularly in underserved and at-risk populations.

 

Dr. Ishmail’s initial research interest in depression among lactating mothers opened doors for deeper involvement in the Kikop Community-Based Organization, where he now serves as a Board Member. He views this role as a platform for volunteerism, using his knowledge to advocate for the mental health needs of mothers and children, complementing Kikop’s core mission of promoting maternal and child well-being.

 

He is also passionate about first aid education and informal counseling, and finds great fulfillment in sharing practical life-saving and supportive skills with those he interacts with.
