Spending a month in Kisii, Kenya, with the Kisii Konya Oroibo Project (KIKOP) was far more than a volunteer opportunity; it was the defining moment where I discovered my passion for public health. Immersing myself in the project’s daily operations allowed me to work side-by-side with a remarkably dedicated staff and engage deeply with the vibrant community of mothers and children they serve. These interactions were both humbling and unforgettable, offering me a window into the resilience and spirit of the Kisii people.
From my very first day in the field, I was struck by the team’s deep-rooted commitment to service. Theirs is a level of dedication that goes beyond clinical support, offering a holistic approach that translates into life-changing outcomes for local families. Witnessing the KIKOP staff navigate challenges with expertise and empathy showed me that effective healthcare is built on trust. This experience ignited a lifelong passion to advocate for health equity and sustainable community empowerment.
A massive thank you to IGHA and the KIKOP team for letting me be a part of the incredible work you do!
